Sociologists and psychologists assert that there is a direct correlation between religious zeal and bigotry. Modern populism espouses the notion that Christian conservatism is nothing more than a guise for insular racism. Furthermore, the cultural milieu in which both Testaments were written is so vastly different from our own that it is not surprising that skeptics view the Word of God as archaic and xenophobic. To make matters worse, Scriptures pertaining to slavery and election, painful indicators of partiality, seem to contradict Paul?s magna carta of liberty recorded in Gal 3:28: 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus' (NKJV). Can readers legitimately harmonize these apparent contradictions and arrive at the conclusion that the God of the Bible is not a racist nor does He regard anyone?s person above another?
